Own domain vs social media: why it matters for your business
· Juan Carlos Lacruz
Your domain is your permanent address on the internet. Here is why having your own is one of the best decisions for your business.
When you give your business as "@mybusiness on Instagram", you're giving someone else's house address. When you give "mybusiness.com", you're giving your own. That difference matters more than it seems.
What an own domain gives you
- Permanence. Your address doesn't change even if you switch social network or provider.
- Trust. An email hello@mybusiness.com conveys far more seriousness than a Gmail account.
- Ranking. Google treats your domain as its own entity that can grow in authority over time.
- Brand. Your domain reinforces your name every time someone types or shares it.
It's cheaper than you think
A domain costs a few euros a year. What's expensive isn't having one; what's expensive is not having one and depending for life on a platform you don't control.
Your domain + your website = your asset
Social media is a channel; your domain and website are an asset you build and that belongs to you. The sooner you start, the sooner it starts working for you.
Don't have yours yet? I'll help you choose it and build your website around it. Let's talk.
